Masters champion Danny Willett says he is not fazed by any extra expectations thrown his way as the headline act at this week’s BMW PGA Championship.
Justin Rose's withdrawal on Thursday through injury means Willett is the only player in the world's top 20 to feature at Wentworth, where just 11 of the world's top 50 are in the field.
Willett followed victory at Augusta with a missed cut at the Players Championship and a tied-23rd finish at last week's Irish Open, where he took the opening-round lead but faltered over the weekend.
The 28-year-old is looking for an improved performance on home soil in an event he will contest for the seventh year running, but is confident he will not be affected by the added pressure on him to impress.
"I don't think it will change it a great deal to be honest," Willett told a pre-tournament press conference on Tuesday. "Obviously coming in as Masters Champion was always a pretty big accolade.
"It would have been nice if Rosey [Justin Rose] would have been here to deflect a little bit of that. I think the expectations are going to be quite high from a lot of other people, but I'm not really fussed about what other people are expecting.
"It's brilliant to be back at the BMW and Wentworth. I've been fortunate enough to have played this event quite a few years in a row now and obviously as a British player, it's the flagship event that we play in.
"I have my own things I want to try and do this week and try to achieve, and from there, hopefully everything pans out nicely."
This week ends a three-tournament stretch for the world No 9 and will be Willett's last before next month's US Open, the first of three majors held in a packed summer.
The Englishman then plans to play in the BMW International Open and the Open de France prior to taking a week off before the Open, with Willett confident his schedule is giving him the best chance of success.
"Obviously your year is built around majors and World Golf Championships and this one is right in behind it in terms of trying to get it scheduled in, so that you pitch up in good form," Willett added.
"You can't always judge when that's going to happen, but you always look to make sure you've not played too much beforehand because it's a fantastic golf event.
"We've done all the bits that we need, so now we can really knuckle down and grind and try and actually play a little bit better than we have the last couple of weeks.
"It's a pretty special place down here at Wentworth, so hopefully we can be somewhere there or thereabouts on Sunday."
