Matsuyama ended 2016 as the hottest player on the planet and marched to an impressive seven-shot victory here last year, and he added another WGC title to his locker with a remarkable final-round 61 at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in August.
The Japanese ace is back in Shanghai to defend his title, but he'll face a tough challenge against the likes of world No 1 Johnson, US Open champion Brooks Koepka and young Spanish sensation Jon Rahm.
