Massey double lifts Colchester

Gavin Massey scored twice as Colchester claimed their first home win of the season with a 2-1 victory against Fleetwood.

The home side started well and David Fox's shot sailed just wide but Fleetwood took an 18th-minute lead when Liam McAlinden latched onto Steven Schumacher's long pass to calmly lift the ball over the on-rushing Sam Walker from the edge of the area. McAlinden had a penalty claim rejected when he fell under Sean Clohessy's challenge in the area and Colchester equalised five minutes before half-time when Freddie Sears' superb pass released Massey, whose excellent first-time strike from a difficult angle beat Chris Maxwell at his near post. Walker denied Antoni Sarcevic's near-post effort just after the break and Gareth Evans side-footed just wide but Colchester bagged their winner with 14 minutes remaining when Massey's effort sailed over Maxwell and in, after Clohessy had picked him out on the edge of the area. Walker denied Schumacher's fine free-kick late on as Colchester claimed victory.
