Harrogate shock Gulls in FA Cup

Blue Square Bet North side Harrogate Town put fatigue to one side to beat League Two Torquay 1-0 at Plainmoor.

Harrogate won a gruelling qualifying match 1-0 against Hyde after extra time on Wednesday night but they were more than a match for their league opponents on a cold, wet afternoon in Devon. Harrogate boss Simon Weaver retained 10 of the same starting eleven who beat Hyde to book their trip to Devon. Town took the lead after 20 minutes when Chib Chilaka kept his feet as defenders slipped all around him and drove a shot in off the base of the post. Torquay's best chance of a scrappy first half came four minutes before the break when Billy Bodin sidefooted over the bar from eight yards. Teenage substitute Niall Thompson missed a similar chance for Torquay from even closer range in the second half after more good work by Rene Howe.
