Leganes have confirmed the appointment of former Southampton boss Mauricio Pellegrino on a one-year deal.

Pellegrino, 46, was sacked by Southampton in March 2018 after a run of one win in 17 games and replaced by Mark Hughes who led the club to Premier League safety.

The Argentine only won five league matches in his nine-month spell in charge of the Saints.

He signed a one-year contract at Leganes, who finished in 17th place in La Liga last season and reached the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey.

Pellegrino has previously managed Deportivo Alaves and Valencia in Spain's top flight.
