Javier Hernandez and Oribe Peralta scored to send Mexico into the Copa America quarter-finals after a 2-0 win over Jamaica in Pasadena.

Goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa was also key for El Tri with several big saves and they will face Venezuela - who beat Uruguay 1-0 - in Houston on Monday for top spot in Group C.

Clayton Donaldson sliced wide for the Reggae Boyz before Hernandez opened the scoring in the 18th minute when he outjumped Wes Morgan from Jesus Manuel Corona's cross to send a superb header into the net in front of 83,263 at the Rose Bowl.

It was the former Manchester United striker's 45th international goal, leaving him just one adrift of Jared Borgetti's Mexico scoring record.

Yasser Corona did well to block Je-Vaughn Watson's effort 10 minutes before the break as Jamaica pressed for an equaliser.

Ochoa then came up big with a smart double save in the 39th minute with Jamaica growing in confidence.

Corona tangled with Donaldson 20 minutes into the second half but Jamaican appeals for a penalty were waved away.

And Mexico wrapped it up nine minutes from the end when Hirving Lozano found Hector Herrera and he touched it onto Peralta, who fired home.

Ochoa was again called into action late on and responded with a fine fingertip save to deny Michael Hector from distance.

The Copa America continues on Friday with the second round of games in Group D - Chile meet Bolivia at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, before Argentina take on Panama at Soldier Field in Chicago.
