Opposition teams will note how Burnley played against Bournemouth on Saturday and use it as a template going forward for how to beat Eddie Howe's side at home, according to Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher.

Burnley ended a run of three straight Premier League defeats by overcoming the Cherries 3-2 at Turf Moor on Saturday, with the home side employing a direct approach in order to get the better of their opponents.

And it is that physical style of play that Carragher thinks teams will now adopt when facing Bournemouth at home so as to disrupt the flow of their normal passing game.

"Defensively they struggled today and could not cope and we are talking about a Burnley team that very rarely score many goals, and yet they got three today and could have got more," he said.

"That shows the problems, one clean sheet on the road. Yes, they are a good football team, but in both boxes they are not quite up to scratch yet, certainly away from home. And away from home you are going to have to defend more than you usually do at home.

"It is always going to be difficult for them conceding two or three goals, not keeping clean sheets, and I think anyone watching the rerun of the game again will see that there is a certain way to play against Bournemouth.

"It is not the way everyone wants to play, but if you certainly want to get three points against them, then you need to play a direct game and they really struggled with it."

Meanwhile, Carragher also believes that the best way to beat the Clarets at Turf Moor, where Sean Dyche's team have now won five league games, is not to allow them to score the first goal.

"It is vitally important against Burnley to score the first goal, if you let them get ahead it is very difficult," said the former Liverpool and England defender.

Eddie Howe expressed his disappointment after Bournemouth lost 3-2 at Burnley

"We know their strength lies defensively, of course they conceded two today and it could have been three. But more often than not they keep it tight at the back with the two centre backs, and the goalkeeper again played well.

"They are a difficult nut to crack, so getting that first goal and not doing something stupid, keeping it nil-nil for as long as you possibly can and then when the game opens up second half, you maybe take your chances."
