Late Gillespie goal sinks Whites
Steven Gillespie's 86th-minute strike earned Cheltenham a shock 1-0 win over Leeds at a sold-out Whaddon Road.
The Robins' third league victory of the campaign lifted them off the foot of the table and denied Leeds the chance to make up ground on the leading clubs in the division.
Leeds were guilty of missing a host of opportunities, with leading scorer Jermaine Beckford the main culprit.
Beckford struck the crossbar in the first half and fired over with the goal gaping midway through the second period.
But Cheltenham made Leeds pay when debutant goalkeeper David Lucas rushed off his line to head clear a long ball from Andy Lindegaard.
The ball fell to Gillespie, who lifted the ball into an empty net from 30 yards to send the home fans wild and condemn Leeds to only their second league defeat of the campaign.
