Bournemouth v Stoke preview: Potters look to break barren scoring run on the road

We look ahead to Saturday's Premier League games, including Man City vs Crystal Palace and Swansea against Everton

Stoke will be looking for their first goals in six away Premier League matches when they travel to Bournemouth on Saturday.

The Potters have failed to find the back of the net in nearly ten hours of playing time on the road, with their last strike coming against Sunderland in January when Peter Crouch scored in the 34th minute.

Indeed, Stoke have failed to win any of their last six matches away from the Bet365 Stadium, although they did get a point from a goalless draw against Man in March.

Bournemouth sit one point and two places ahead of the Potters in the Premier League table with their place in the top flight secure for another season.

To make for an even further difficult task for Stoke, Bournemouth have won their last two league games without conceding and have scored five goals in the process.

Team news

Stoke will check on Saido Berahino and Jonathan Walters ahead of Saturday's trip to the Vitality Stadium.

Berahino, who is still yet to score for the Potters following his January switch from West Brom, has been ill during the week while Walters has missed the last two games because of a knee problem.

Bournemouth will be without striker Benik Afobe because of a hamstring strain with Lys Mousset in contention to take his place. Dan Gosling continues to nurse a calf problem so Lewis Cook could again come into the side.

Jack Wilshere is out for the season after suffering a fractured leg, while Andrew Surman, Callum Wilson, Adam Federici and Rhoys Wiggins all continue their recovery from knee injuries.

Opta stats

This will be just the fourth meeting between Bournemouth and Stoke in the Premier League, with the Cherries getting their first win over them in this season's reverse fixture (L2 previously).

Stoke City have won just one of their last six away games at Bournemouth in all competitions (D2 L3), although this did come on the most recent trip (3-1 in February 2016).

The eight goals scored in this fixture in the Premier League have all been registered by different players (three for Bournemouth and five for Stoke).

Josh King has scored 12 goals in his 16 Premier League appearances so far in 2017 - this tally is just three fewer than Stoke City overall (15 goals in 16 games) in 2017.

King now has 15 goals in the Premier League this season and needs three more in 2016-17 to equal the most scored by a Norwegian player in a single PL season: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (18 in 1996-97 for Manchester United).

Mark Hughes has overseen 149 wins as a Premier League manager and his next victory will see him become only the 7th different manager to reach 150 Premier League wins.

Bournemouth need just one point from their remaining three games of the season to equal their points tally from 2015-16 (42). They have already won the same number of league matches as they did last term (11).

Stoke City's lowest points tally in a single Premier League season is 42 in 2012-13; a season that ended with Tony Pulis' dismissal as manager. The Potters are two points off that tally with three games remaining in 2016-17 (40 points).

Merson's prediction

I watched Bournemouth against Sunderland and at times they played really well. This has the makings of an excellent football match. It's one you'd like to watch because the reins are off for both sides. Neither side has anything to lose and can both have a go with confidence.

PAUL PREDICTS: 3-2 (22/1 with Sky Bet)

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe is pleased to be linked with big names but won't be drawn on his rumours of a move for Jermain Defoe or Asmir Begovic

Betting

Bournemouth are Sky Bet's 23/20 favourites for the win with Stoke priced at 21/10 while the draw is a 13/5 chance. Joshua King is the 4/1 favourite in the first goalscorer betting while Peter Crouch and Saido Berahino are considered the visitors' main threats at 13/2 apiece.
