West Brom v Stoke preview: Saido Berahino in line to face former club

Watch a preview of Saturday's Premier League fixtures including Stoke's trip to West Brom

Saido Berahino is in contention to face former club West Brom when Stoke travel to The Hawthorns in the Premier League on Saturday.

The striker, who joined the Potters from Albion for £12m in the January window, served an eight-week suspension for "an FA disciplinary matter" earlier this season. Sky sources understand the ban came after he tested positive for a recreational drug.

But he made his Stoke debut as a second-half substitute in their 1-1 draw with Everton on Wednesday, and Mark Hughes has confirmed he is in line to feature this weekend.

West Brom sit eighth in the table at kick-off, one place above Saturday's opponents, but Tony Pulis will be without defender Jonny Evans, who is still sidelined with a calf injury.

Team news

Evans (calf) has missed the last four games with the problem and Pulis admits he is becoming frustrated with his slow recovery.

New £10m midfielder Jake Livermore could make his first start since moving from Hull, having appeared as a substitute against Sunderland.

Marc Wilson, a Deadline Day loan signing from Bournemouth, misses out with a hamstring strain.

Xherdan Shaqiri is unavailable for Stoke (knock) and Glen Johnson is likely to miss out too but Hughes hopes to have both back to face Crystal Palace next Saturday.

Geoff Cameron and Jon Walters (both knee) are making progress but the trip to Albion comes too soon for the pair, while Jack Butland (ankle) and Stephen Ireland (leg) remain long-term absentees.

Wilfried Bony and Mame Biram Diouf are set to be in the squad having returned from international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations, but Ramadan Sobhi is still away in Gabon as Egypt prepare for the final.

Opta stats

West Brom are unbeaten in four Premier League contests with Stoke (W3 D1), after failing to win any of the previous five (D2 L3).

The Potters won their first five visits to the Hawthorns in the Premier League but have lost their last two - both against Pulis' WBA side.

Pulis has only been on the losing side as a manager once in 12 Premier League matches between West Brom and Stoke (W8 D3), 1-2 to Roy Hodgson's West Brom in January 2012.

James Morrison's goal against Middlesbrough was his 50th goal involvement in the Premier League for the Baggies (27 goals, 23 assists), becoming just the second player to achieve this feat after Chris Brunt.

Peter Crouch has scored in four of his last five Premier League appearances; this after a run of 21 appearances in the competition without a goal.

Image: Marko Arnautovic is a key creative force for Stoke

Marko Arnautovic has had a hand in 40 Premier League goals for Stoke City (19 goals, 21 assists) - 11 more than any other player since his debut for the club.

While West Brom are the only Premier League side yet to have an English goalscorer this season, they have seen seven British players score. Not including English scorers, that's a joint-record in a Premier League season - Everton in 1999/2000 (five Scottish, two Welsh) and Burnley in 2009/10 (six Scottish, one Northern Irish) also had seven.

The Baggies have already scored 21 home league goals this season, one more than they managed throughout 2015/16 (20).

Only Swansea (14) have picked up fewer yellow cards in away Premier League games this season than the Potters (15).

Merson's prediction

West Brom are a decent team. They are hard to beat and are very good in front of their own fans. They played well again the other night at Middlesbrough and came away with a good point.

When you watch Stoke you can see they've got the players and on their day they'll beat anybody. I don't really see too much between these teams at all.

PAUL PREDICTS: 1-1

Betting

The Baggies are 5/4 to pick up another home win with Stoke 23/10 to come away with the win, while the draw is priced up at 11/5.

West Brom to win to nil is 5/2, while Pulis's side can be backed at 11/4 to edge the match by exactly one goal. Berahino is 13/2 to open the scoring in a match against his former club, while the market is headed by home hitman Salomon Rondon at 5/1.
