Ed Chamberlin is joined by Paul Merson to discuss this weekend's Premier League fixtures

Jose Fonte joins Victor Wanyama on Southampton's suspended list for the trip to Stoke City on Saturday afternoon.

The defender will serve his one-match ban following his red card in last weekend's 1-1 draw against Sunderland, while Wanyama completes the last of his five-match suspension.

Ronald Koeman's side have won just two of their last eight Premier League matches on the road, and lost 2-0 on their last away trip to Bournemouth.

Meanwhile, Stoke are unbeaten in four games after back-to-back 3-0 defeats to Manchester United and Everton in early February, and Mark Hughes' side can move to within three points of fifth with another win.

Hughes has a decision to make on Ryan Shawcross, who could come straight back into the team after returning to training this week.

Joselu and Bojan are also in contention after impressing from the bench last weekend, but long-term absentees Shay Given, Glen Johnson and Phil Bardsley remain sidelined.

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has confirmed that Charlie Austin is expected to be out for up to two more weeks.

With Fonte and Wanyama banned, Southampton will also be without Charlie Austin, who has a hamstring problem.

But there is good news for Koeman as fellow striker Shane Long is set to return after a knee injury.

Opta stats

Stoke have lost just one of their last six league games at the Britannia Stadium (W4 D1 L1).

Koeman's side have kept a clean sheet in three of their last four away league games, but have scored just six goals in their last 10 trips away from St Mary's.

Without Marko Arnautovic's nine Premier League goals this season, Stoke City would be 12 points worse off.

Jack Butland has been forced in to making more saves than any other top-flight goalkeeper this season (98).

Of goalkeepers to have played more than once in the Premier League this season, Fraser Forster has the best saves to shots ratio (81.5%).

Southampton have been given more red cards than any other Premier League team this season (5).

Merson's prediction

I don't go against Stoke at home. I know they lost to Everton, but it's very rare that happens. Southampton are in and out at the moment, and got away with a late equaliser against Sunderland.

Without Jose Fonte in defence for the away side after his red card last week, I can't see anything other than Stoke picking up three points.

PAUL PREDICTS: 2-1

Betting

Stoke are Sky Bet's 13/8 favourites for the victory with Southampton marginal outsiders are 15/8 while the draw is priced at 2/1. The Potters are, however, longer odds at 16/1 in Sky Bet's top-six betting, despite being two points better off and boasting far superior form.

Shane Long and Graziano Pelle head a wide open first goalscorer market at 11/2 apiece, with under two goals or more considered an odds-against chance at 11/8.
