Fleetwood boss Joey Barton has raided his former club Rangers by signing midfielder Jason Holt on a season-long loan.

Holt was a regular member of the Rangers side last season, though has been allowed to move on and spend the 2018/19 campaign with Fleetwood.

He will again team up with Barton, who he played alongside at Rangers during his brief spell in Scottish football, which lasted just eight matches.

Holt has made over 100 appearances for Rangers in three years since joining from Hearts and becomes Barton's second signing after left-back Eddie Clarke who joined on a free transfer after leaving Tranmere.

"I'm delighted that Jason has joined us here at Fleetwood Town," Barton told the club's official website.

"I saw his qualities when I was at Rangers on a daily basis, and as soon as I found out he was available we tried everything to make sure we got him here."

Holt has previously been tested in English football when he was loaned to Sheffield United in Sky Bet League One during the 2014-15 season, when he made 17 appearances.

"He's a great character, a great trainer and he knows the level after his season with Sheffield United," Barton added.
