Tottenham a better team than last season, says Jamie Redknapp

Jamie Redknapp believes the addition of players like Victor Wanyama means Tottenham are a better team than last season.

Spurs matched their club record with a sixth consecutive Premier League win on Saturday, beating West Brom 4-0 at White Hart Lane.

The victory moves them into second above Liverpool, who face Manchester United on Nissan Super Sunday, and puts the pressure on league leaders Chelsea.

Mauricio Pochettino was delighted his side followed up their win over Chelsea with another dominant victory

Mauricio Pochettino's side challenged for the title last season only to fall away in the final stages, failing to win any of their last four matches.

Redknapp believes they are better positioned this season because the Tottenham boss, who made nine changes on Saturday from the FA Cup victory over Aston Villa, now has more options to choose from.

"This result will have sent shockwaves through the league today," Redknapp told Sky Sports.

"I'm sure Man Utd and Liverpool will have been watching it thinking, ‘Wow, Tottenham are on the march. They’re flying.’

"They are a really powerful side and they are looking better [than last season], Wanyama has added to that. He’s a massive presence in that team.

"You’ve got options perhaps you didn’t have last season. The only worry is if they were to lose [Dele] Alli or [Harry] Kane, because they haven’t got someone to step in and fill the void of those goals.

"But Tottenham are in a great position, they have got players signed up on long contracts. They are playing better than last season."

Reaction from Christian Eriksen and hat-trick hero Harry Kane

The only concern for Spurs was the injury suffered by Jan Vertonghen, who was helped down the tunnel after tweaking his ankle in the second half.

The centre-back missed Belgium's Euro 2016 quarter-final defeat to Wales after tearing ankle ligaments and Pochettino told Sky Sports his latest injury "looks bad".

"The only disappointment is the Vertonghen injury," Redknapp added. "Apart from that it was perfect.

"They pressed the ball so well and when they had it, they were decisive. There were so many good performances and it was hard to pick the man of the match.

"Christian Eriksen was exceptional in midfield, Alli just gets better and better. Fast, incisive, hard to stop. West Brom couldn’t get near them, they were chasing shadows."
