An eighth draw at Old Trafford on Saturday leaves Manchester United with work to do to avoid a worst-ever Premier League home points return this season.

United's travelling supporters have often serenaded the team with their own version of Herman's Hermits classic "I'm into something good" this campaign, gleefully declaring Jose Mourinho has got United playing "the way they should", and with 27 points away from Old Trafford, a points haul bettered only by Manchester City and league leaders Chelsea, they are well within their rights to be so buoyant.

At home, there is less enthusiasm. With just six wins and 26 points from 15 home fixtures to date, Mourinho is in danger of finishing his first season in the United hotseat with the worst home points tally in United's Premier League history.

Defeat to bitter rivals City in September, who at the time looked unstoppable under the tutelage of Pep Guardiola, remains the only time United have emerged with nothing to show for their efforts on their own patch in the league.

However, it is the eight draws that have been really damaging, especially when you consider Hull, Burnley, Stoke, Bournemouth and West Ham are among the teams to frustrate United.

David Moyes' disastrous season in 2013/14 represents the lowest points return achieved at Old Trafford in the Premier League. Fans endured an unprecedented seven home defeats as Moyes' men finished with a measly 30 points earned at home, in seventh position. Such form cost the now Sunderland manager his job.

United in fact need to earn ten points from their remaining four home fixtures to ensure they better the next worst home points return, achieved in 2001/02.

Sir Alex Ferguson's side had just become the first side in 26 years to win the English top flight title in three successive seasons, but their poor home form - picking up just 35 points on their own turf - contributed to a disappointing title defence, culminating in a third-placed finish.

For all the palpable frustration around Old Trafford as Louis van Gaal's pragmatic philosophy meant the football on show at the 'Theatre of Dreams' wasn't always the most exhilarating, his Old Trafford points haul of 44 in 2014/15, and 41 the following season will better any return Mourinho finishes this season with.

United's home woes have not gone unnoticed, either.

"We know that they have difficulties at home," Ronald Koeman said ahead of Everton's trip to Old Trafford on Tuesday. "Maybe in last few home results, but they are still a really strong team."

As well as the Toffees - keen to avenge their Merseyside derby misery - still to come at home for United are Chelsea, a Swansea battling to stay up and a rejuvenated Crystal Palace - it won't get any easier for Mourinho in front of the expectant Old Trafford masses.
