Millwall surged through to the southern section final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy with a 2-0 win at Southend.

Steve Morison and Shaun Williams were both on target for the Lions at Roots Hall on Tuesday night as manager Neil Harris enjoyed a successful return to his former side.

But, despite the final scoreline, it was Southend who were on top early on with David Worrall forcing Jordan Archer into a stunning save with a well struck 20-yard shot.

However, Millwall soon hit back and opened the scoring in the 34th minute when Morison volleyed home a right wing cross from Carlos Edwards.

The Lions then doubled their lead in the 65th minute when Southend goalkeeper Daniel Bentley fumbled a low 20-yard shot into the bottom right hand corner of the net.

Bentley redeemed himself by making a fine double to deny by George Saville and Lee Gregory in quick succession.
