Magpies seal third-round spot

Image: Bishop (right): Battles for the ball against Bournemouth

Krystian Pearce's first Notts County goal set the Magpies on their way to a 3-1 FA Cup home win against Bournemouth.

In the 18th minute, a typically menacing free-kick from Ben Davies had the visiting defence flummoxed, and when Neal Bishop returned the ball from the opposite wing, Pearce nodded in with a deftness that belied his awkward leap. The ball spent much of the remainder of the half in and around the Bournemouth box, and from one such cross, Lee Hughes sent his marker on a fool's errand with a deft body swerve to turn and score. Deep into first-half stoppage-time, a weaving run from Thomas Ince saw a square ball turned into his own net by Warren Cummings to make it 3-0. Towards the end of a lower octane second half, hope briefly flickered for the Cherries when Steve Fletcher nodded in a Rhoys Wiggins cross, but there was little sign of this tie ever being taken back to the south coast and County now face an FA Cup third-round tie at Sunderland.
