Sir Alex Ferguson believes Scotland have a chance against England

Scotland may be underdogs against England in November's World Cup Qualifier but are capable of a shock at Wembley, says Sir Alex Ferguson.

Gordon Strachan's team have had a stuttering start to their quest to be in Russia for 2018 on the back of their recent 3-0 defeat at Slovakia and 1-1 home draw with Lithuania.

And as the Scots prepare for an intriguing trip to London on Friday November 11, the former Manchester United boss was asked by SSNHQ reporter Charles Paterson if the visitors had the talent to secure progression to a major championship.

Sir Alex said: "There has always been talent in Scotland. They've got a rich history of great players coming through the country and I don't think it changes. They have some excellent footballers.

"Scotland always do well against England. That's always a great incentive - to be the underdog. The support will be fantastic. I don't know how many will be there but whatever their allocation, it'll be treble that. They will find tickets somewhere!

"It's a hard section with England in it, but Scotland have to win it. But they can win it. You go back to the European Championship Qualifier [in 2000 against England] when they were very unlucky.

"Christian Dailly had a header saved by David Seaman right at the end. But Scotland will do well."

On Hampden staging these games, Sir Alex added: "There's a tradition of having finals there and that's contributed to them getting it.

"It's been home to some fantastic finals. It's a great football home so it's the right venue and a fantastic opportunity for Glasgow to show itself again."
