Vancouver 2-2 Columbus: Whitecaps' winning run ends

Vancouver's strong start to the new Major League Soccer season hit a hurdle on Wednesday as the Whitecaps were held to a 2-2 home draw by Columbus.

Octavio Rivero scored his fifth goal of the season for Vancouver, who had won their previous four games.

Kei Kamara scored twice for Columbus, with the second putting the Crew ahead 2-1 in the 50th minute.

Vancouver responded by bringing on speedy Gambian striker Kekuta Manneh, and he set up the equalising goal for Darren Mattocks, who was making his first start of the season.

Mattocks nearly won it for Vancouver moments later, but his shot smashed against the post.

The draw increases Vancouver's lead atop both the Western Conference and Supporters’ Shield standings to three points.

Columbus, meanwhile, remain in seventh place in the Eastern Conference, five points behind leaders DC United.
