LA Galaxy were unable to break down 10-man Vancouver Whitecaps as they had to settle for a 0-0 draw in the MLS.

The Whitecaps saw Matias Laba shown a straight red card in the 28th minute, but Galaxy, missing the injured Steven Gerrard, were unable to make their numerical advantage count and were held to a point.

Real Salt Lake City won their first away game of the season in a 2-1 win at Sporting Kansas City.

Goals from Justen Glad and Luke Mulholland sent Real into a 2-0 lead, with Benny Feilhaber pulling one back deep into stoppage time.

Veljko Paunovic enjoyed his first win in charge of Chicago Fire as they beat 10-man Philadelphia Union 1-0.

Kennedy Igboananike's 51st-minute goal was enough to down Union, who had Warren Creavalle sent off just after half-time.

Toronto FC were forced to play 77 minutes with 10 men following Benoit Cheyrou's red card and they went down to a 1-0 defeat to Colorado Rapids while Clint Dempsey's late strike gave Seattle Sounders a 1-0 win over Montreal Impact.
