It is the the penultimate weekend of the MLS regular season - and plenty of teams are vying for play-off qualification.

Here are five things to look out for Stateside...

New England Revolution v Montreal Impact: Will New England right the wrongs amidst a Drogba hot streak?

Didier Drogba scored his ninth goal in nine games to give Montreal Impact victory over the Colorado Rapids.

Montreal comprehensively dismantled New England the last time these two teams met, winning 3-0 at Stade Saputo one month ago. The game proved a huge blow for the Revs as it snapped an eight-game unbeaten streak.

A draw against strugglers Philadelphia and a loss to bottom-placed Chicago Fire highlights their defensive frailties. However, New England's form prior to the last three matches means they are just one point away from guaranteeing play-off qualification.

Being torn apart by Didier Drogba is not a narrative head coach Jay Heaps will wish to see unfold again. The former Chelsea striker has nine goals in his last nine matches, already making him Montreal's top scorer for this season despite only joining in July.

After a crucial 2-1 win against Colorado Rapids last weekend, the Impact are one win away from qualification, but three points for New England would undoubtedly be a psychological barrier overcome.

Houston Dynamo v Seattle Sounders: Can Houston keep their dying play-off dream alive?

Take a look at some of the best goals from round 31 of MLS.

Houston's play-off hopes are hanging on by less than a thread as they saw their already slim chances sunk by a 1-0 win for Portland Timbers against Real Salt Lake last night.

Not only must they win their next two ties, and hope for consecutive losses in a row for San Jose and Portland over the final two weekends, but the Dynamo would also have to assure a greater goal difference compared to the Timbers. Essentially, Owen Coyle and Co need a lot to go their way.

Despite play-offs being a long shot, pride is still at stake with Seattle striving to seal their spot in the post-season. A Sounders win would guarantee qualification with a game to spare.

Seattle have never lost to the Dynamo in Houston in five all-time league meetings while Houston are coming off a 4-1 loss to rivals FC Dallas in their last match.

It should make for a comfortable win for the Sounders, but Houston will want to show signs they are ready to rebuild a more offensive unit for next season, and will feel assurance at home after winning seven of their last nine fixtures at BBVA Compass Stadium.

Orlando City SC v New York City FC: Who will end 2015 the more successful expansion side?

The two 2015 expansion sides meet for the third time this season with neither realistically in the play-off picture.

Orlando could mathematically qualify, meaning a win against New York City is absolutely vital. Even if Orlando failed to qualify for the play-offs, two wins to end the season would mean setting the record for most wins for an expansion club.

The team that looks set to stop them from their play-off dream is Montreal Impact, who are currently four points ahead, yet Orlando have been on a strong streak as of late, actually beating Montreal 3-1 in their last game at the Citrus Bowl to mark a fourth win in a row.

The maths is simple for Adrian Heath's side. Win both games and hope Montreal drop points and they will qualify.

New York City can no longer qualify but Andrea Pirlo, David Villa and Frank Lampard will aim to end the season on a high as the growth period continues. For NYCFC, the rebuilding project starts now, and head coach Jason Kreis will want to ensure a strong end to ease pressure he could endure throughout pre-season for 2016.

San Jose Earthquakes v Sporting Kansas City: In the race for sixth, can San Jose overtake Portland?

Image: Chris Wondolowski: San Jose Earthquakes' main attacking threat

It's do or die for San Jose Earthquakes as Portland's midweek win means their play-off fate is no longer in their hands.

The Earthquakes need to make up a three-point deficit in the final two matches to take sixth place, meaning a win at home against Sporting Kansas City is needed to keep up the pressure. Playing the night before Portland could possibly have an impact mentally.

San Jose have one win in their last six and a worse points per game average (1.38) than Portland (1.47), with the odds against them as they face Peter Vermes' team, whose last result was a 1-0 away win at the Timbers on October 3 after lifting the US Open Cup just three days earlier.

But what will give San Jose confidence is they have an in-form goal-scorer in Chris Wondolowski, who has scored seven of his 16 goals this season over the last nine games. Kansas City have also not won in San Jose since August 2000, so history is on their side.

Despite injury problems, San Jose head coach Dominic Kinnear will believe there is still every chance of making the post-season.

LA Galaxy v Portland Timbers: Will Portland maintain their composure?

MLS highlights from the midweek fixtures

LA Galaxy are battling for top spot in the west, with the pressure on after FC Dallas beat fellow western conference heavyweights Vancouver Whitecaps 2-0 on Wednesday night.

Portland secured a vital 1-0 midweek road win against Real Salt Lake to put them in the driving seat for sixth place in the west, but San Jose are just three points behind, meaning a loss could see San Jose go above the red line in their place due to a greater goal difference.

The Galaxy will be entering the game fresher having not played since October 4. Steven Gerrard should be ready to play having not played during the international break, but Giovani Dos Santos is out for 2-3 weeks with a muscular injury.

However, LA have only won once in their last five league games, with the three points coming against FC Dallas the game before their 1-1 draw with Seattle Sounders.

Fanendo Adi has been one of the most productive players for Portland throughout the season, scoring 13 goals, which is 10 more than their next three highest goalscorers.

The 25-year-old will likely be the man expected to produce a game-winner at the StubHub Center.
