Manchester United and Liverpool to triumph in EFL Cup semi-finals, says Charlie Nicholas

Charlie Nicholas serves up his EFL Cup semi-final first-leg predictions as the final four battle it out for a place at Wembley.

Manchester United are strong favourites as they host Hull in Tuesday night's tie, live on Sky Sports 1 HD from 7.30pm, while the Sky cameras will also be at St Mary's for Liverpool's clash with Southampton.

Here's what Soccer Saturday pundit Charlie is predicting for the two clashes in his Sky Bet tips...

Manchester United v Hull City (Tuesday from 7.30pm, live on Sky Sports 1 HD)

I think we're all waiting to see what develops under Marco Silva. They got a decent result at the weekend in beating Swansea 2-0.

Jose Mourinho backs Marco Silva to do well in the Premier League with Hull, while Silva says 'it's not fair' to compare him with the Manchester United boss

One thing you have to say about Hull is that you can never question their players' commitment. It's another good game for Silva to look at his players before he gets down to the real business of trying to keep them up.

As for United, Jose Mourinho saying he's actually starting to enjoy Manchester now tells you he's starting to get things his way, with the players he's not interested in halfway out of the door.

He's got a lot of good choices with Antony Martial doing a bit more on the ball and Wayne Rooney going for the record. He could rest Zlatan Ibrahimovic again but I think he will want to play in a semi-final.

Hull will sit in and just hope to give themselves a chance but I don't see it happening and I think the hosts will do a fairly professional job and all but kill off their visitors' hopes.

Charlie predicts: 2-0 and Martial to score first - 18/1 with Sky Bet

Score: 2-0 - Juan Mata scored first

Southampton v Liverpool (Wednesday from 7.30pm, live on Sky Sports 1 HD

The question about Southampton is are they going to go for it? I could see them sit in, play on the counter-attack and treat it like an away game.

I think they've been getting a bit bland under Claude Puel and you do wonder where the goals are going to come from.

I covered the league game when it ended 0-0 and Liverpool should have won three or four nil, so they have no reason to change anything from the league game and expect they'll get a better outcome.

Jurgen Klopp seems to be getting twitchy and made too many changes in the FA Cup for me, but I do expect them to win here and, with the form he's in, I fancy Adam Lallana to come back and haunt Southampton.

Charlie predicts: 1-2 and Lallana to score first - 35/1 with Sky Bet
