Sevilla's Adil Rami will join the France squad training for Euro 2016 as cover for fellow defender Raphael Varane, who has picked up an injury.

Real Madrid's Varane suffered a hamstring injury in training and could be out of action for up to three weeks.

The club said on Sunday that Varane was a serious doubt for this weekend's Champions League final against Atletico Madrid.

It is feared the injury also makes him a doubtful starter for France's opening Euro 2016 game against Romania at the Stade de France on Friday, June 10.

Rami will join the team at their training camp outside Paris on Tuesday, the French football federation (FFF) said in a statement on Monday.

The federation said Rami had been summoned "whilst awaiting further information on the state of the Real Madrid defender's health."

Rami, 30, has been capped 27 times by France and was a teamsheet favourite under Laurent Blanc's 2010-12 reign, but he has not been called up by France coach Didier Deschamps since June 2013.

Deschamps is already without a key defender, having left Liverpool's Mamadou Sakho out of his 23-man squad for the tournament due to a provisional doping ban.

The teams have until May 31 to present their final 23-man list to European body UEFA.
