Diego Costa and David Silva star as Spain hit eight goals in win over Liechtenstein

Seven of their goals came in a devastating second-half display as Liechtenstein crumbled after frustrating their hosts early on.

Diego Costa, David Silva and Alvaro Morata all scored twice while Sergi Roberto and Vitolo also got on the scoresheet in the Group G opener.

Chelsea forward Costa had come in for criticism after a run of one goal from his previous 11 international caps, but after the game insisted he was always confident his scoring touch would return.

"I had struggled because a striker always needs to score goals but now I'm participating more in the play and I knew the goals were going to come," Costa said.

"I never complained about my team mates and I have to thank them because they always supported me and never allowed me to give up."
