The unfortunate Germany coach Joachim Low was caught on camera during their 2-0 win over Ukraine subconsciously having a scratch of his, ahem, nether regions.
The 54-year-old has been widely ridiculed on social media, but his players stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Low on Tuesday, defending his right to scratch the itch.
Striker Lukas Podolski was interrogated by the massed ranks of the German media and the former Arsenal man issued a stern defence.
"I believe 80 per cent of you [journalists] and me as well, sometimes scratch your testicles from time to time," said the Galatasaray forward.
The Lille incident is just the latest bodily indiscretion from Low, who has in the past been caught by cameras picking his nose during Germany games.
