Tottenham's Kieran Trippier was a hugely popular selection, with his club mate Danny Rose also selected, along with former Spurs ace Kyle Walker and Manchester United's converted full-back Ashley Young.

In central defence, Manchester City's John Stones and Leicester City's Harry Maguire received plenty of votes, but there was also encouragement for Chelsea's Gary Cahill, who was left out of the previous England squad. The same goes for United's Chris Smalling, who has received some criticism from Southgate but clearly remains popular with our readers.

MIDFIELDERS

After a stunning season for champions City, it is no surprise to Raheem Sterling make it into thousands of squads selected by our readers. Tottenham's Dele Alli also has lots of supporters, as does United's Jesse Lingard while England regulars Eric Dier and Jordan Henderson, of Spurs and Liverpool respectively, are included, too, along with Henderson's fit-again team-mate Adam Lallana.

Arsenal's Jack Wilshere has been splitting opinion over the past few months but makes it into our readers' squad, as does Newcastle United's Jonjo Shelvey - an outsider to make the official group.

FORWARDS

Tottenham's Harry Kane was an obvious selection, given another superb goal-scoring season, while Leicester's Jamie Vardy remains a respected option for our readers.

United's Marcus Rashford is likely to be in Russia and gets support here, while Arsenal's Danny Welbeck - who has had some success on the international stage - gathered enough votes to make it into the squad, too.
