Gareth Southgate discusses his camp's plan to tackle lesser known World Cup opponents Panama and Tunisia

England manager Gareth Southgate says intelligence on lesser known World Cup opponents Tunisia and Panama will dictate his own set-up.

Their final opponents for the group stage at Russia 2018 will be Belgium, packed with Premier League players such as Kevin De Bruyne and Eden Hazard.

Neither Tunisia nor Panama have any players currently featuring in the English top flight, but Southgate has revealed the England camp are delving through match footage to work out any surprises that might come their way in June.

"We've seen all their last seven or eight games," he told Sky Sports News. "They played again in March with one or two changes, particularly Panama who played a slightly different system.

"We've got to keep across that.

"The individuals we don't know as well as Belgium, but the system and style of play is of more interest than specific individuals because that's what dictates how we might press or build up in the games.

"It's a good challenge and it's nice to be preparing for different teams."

Southgate said England remain "on track" with their preparations for this summer's World Cup.

He was speaking at the draw for the U17 European Championships which will be held in England next month, following major tournament success across several age groups in the last year.

England won the prestigious Toulon Tournament, the U20 World Cup and the U19 European Championships, but Southgate is intent on ensuring the trophy-laden year is not a "one-off".

"They've seen they can compete against the other countries and there should be no reason we can't continue to do so," he said.

"In the end you're looking for players to come through to the senior team. That is the success of a programme."
