Eric Dier will captain England once again when Gareth Southgate's side host Brazil in a friendly at Wembley on Tuesday night.
The 23-year-old Tottenham midfielder skippered England for the first time on Friday, when they drew 0-0 with world champions Germany.
Southgate is pursuing a policy of building a leadership group rather than name one captain alone and has decided to stick with Dier for Tuesday's showdown with the five-time World Cup winners.
"It's good experience for him," said Southgate.
"I think being the captain on the pitch is one element of being a captain and showing leadership the rest of the time we're in camp is another part.
"The on-field part might help to raise the level of your performance, the level of ownership and responsibility.
"The bigger picture is we want some of these young lads to feel the responsibility a bit more.
"Eric has good tactical understanding on the field."
Dier came through the youth set-up at Sporting Lisbon in Portugal and Southgate thinks the player's background has proven beneficial.
"He is a good sounding board for me as a coach when you want to have discussions around tactical problems on the pitch," said Southgate.
"I like to throw that to the players sometimes, just to see what their thinking is.
"We have our solutions but, if they don't 100 per cent believe in that, some times it is good to listen to what they are thinking.
"He's somebody whose upbringing at Lisbon was slightly different to some young players, they were asked [at Sporting] to make decisions on the field a lot more."
On Friday night Dier lined up in midfield alongside Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who produced an eye-catching display on his debut.
The Crystal Palace player, who is on loan from Chelsea, will be looking to build on that display against Brazil.
Asked how the 21-year-old had been in the days since the Germany match, Southgate said: "Quiet, as usual!
"I think he obviously has taken a lot from the game and found it a great experience.
"It's incredible really that he's had so few 90-minute appearances in the league yet we're bringing him into that sort of environment.
"We believe in him, he did really well. But sometimes the first game is easier because nobody is aware of you."
