Harry Kane wants to succeed Wayne Rooney as England's captain on a permanent basis and lead the team to Russia next year.
The Tottenham striker was handed the armband for England's games with France and Scotland earlier this year, while Jordan Henderson was captain for the recent wins over Slovakia and Malta.
Manager Gareth Southgate has yet to make a decision on who will lead the team at the World Cup in Russia next summer; though Kane is confident he is ready should he be called upon.
"Yes, I've had the armband and it was a very proud moment," said Kane when asked if he's targeting the captaincy again.
"I feel like one of the leaders in the team. But Gareth Southgate has said he is going to take his time and we do have plenty of leaders."
Kane has scored 13 goals already this season and hopes to continue that form for England in their two World Cup Qualifiers against Slovenia and Lithuania this week.
The Three Lions lead Group F by five points, with a win at Wembley securing their qualification, and Kane hopes maintaining his momentum can strengthen his case for the role of captain.
"My focus has to be on scoring goals and continuing this form into October. That's the most important thing - do your talking on the pitch," he added.
"Whoever Gareth picks as captain, the team will get behind him.
"We have still not qualified and we have to win the game on Thursday, and that makes it easier on Sunday."
