Wembley lit up the famous arch in the Belgian colours to show support to the country following the recent terrorist attacks

The Wembley arch has been lit in the colours of the Belgian flag as an act of solidarity following Tuesday's terrorist attacks in Brussels.

Belgium is currently observing three days of national mourning after at least 31 people were killed and 260 injured in explosions at Brussels airport and Maelbeek metro station.

The devastating attacks have sparked a global wave of mourning and several landmarks around the world had the Belgian flag projected onto them on Tuesday night.

And the 315-metre long Wembley arch, which stretches more than 133m in height and can be seen across England's capital city, was lit in red, yellow and black from 6pm on Wednesday.

The gesture of solidarity will bring to mind November's terrorist atrocities in Paris, after which Wembley was one of several London buildings to be decorated with the French tricolore.
