Atletico Madrid talent Saul Niguez has hailed his stunning solo goal against Bayern Munich as the best of his fledgling career.

The 21-year-old has had an impressive season in the heart of Atletico's midfield, but reached new heights on Wednesday night when he dribbled past four opposition players to slot past Manuel Neuer in the Bayern Munich goal.

Atletico now hold a one-goal lead going into their Champions League semi-final second leg, and Saul was delighted to help his team across the line.

"It's the most important and the best too," Saul said of his goal in a post-match interview with AS.

"I was dribbling the ball forward, I saw that I'd gone past two opponents and, as I came into the area, I got it on to my left foot to score."

"It was a great piece of individual skill and creativity," Atletico boss Diego Simeone said.

"He is a player who is developing well, and has been great for us."

Bayern Munich came back into the game in the latter stages but were unable to find a vital away goal at the Vicente Calderon.

"There was a period of the game when they [Bayern] pushed us back and we had to dig in," Saul added.

"Bayern are a really tough team, and we have to say thank you to the fans who cheer us on and get behind us every step of the way."

Saul is expected to start in the return leg next week, and there will surely be plenty of eyes studying the young midfielder's performance.

Arsenal and Liverpool are among the Premier League teams said to be interested in his signature.
