Real Madrid have confirmed Gareth Bale sustained tendon damage in his right ankle during their Champions League victory over Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday.
The winger was forced to hobble off just before the hour mark at the Estadio Jose Alvalade after sustaining what appeared to be a twisted ankle.
Real did not specify how long the 27-year-old may be out for, with their El Clasico clash against Barcelona at the Nou Camp just 10 days away.
Bale has been in supreme form in recent weeks having tied his future to the European champions with a bumper contract extension to 2022.
Real were leading 1-0 when Bale was replaced by Marco Asensio and, despite losing the Wales international, they went on to secure a 2-1 victory thanks to goals from Raphael Varane and Karim Benzema.
The result was enough to guarantee Real's place in the knockout stages for a record 20th consecutive season.
