Victor Casadesus scored the only goal as strugglers Levante claimed a valuable 1-0 win at Getafe in Saturday's Primera Division game at Coliseum Alfonso Perez.

Casadesus broke the deadlock in the 35th minute and Lucas Alcaraz's side held on to claim three valuable points in their quest to avoid relegation.

Levante started the day just one point clear of the bottom three, but the win over 13th-placed Getafe boosted them above Eibar and into 15th place.

The visitors had the best of the early chances when David Barral was twice denied by the Getafe defence before the 10-minute mark.

The striker first saw his header from the middle of the box saved by Getafe goalkeeper Vicente Guaita before his shot from the left of the area was blocked shortly after.

Pedro Leon sent a shot wide at the other end in the 20th minute, with Diego Castro's strike a minute later saved by Levante keeper Diego Marino.

Levante midfielder Jose Mari had a chance blocked 10 minutes before the break, but the visitors soon made the breakthrough as Casadesus found the back of the net from the set piece. The striker got onto the end of Jose Morales' cross from a corner to head into the top right corner.

Castro missed a chance to head Getafe level two minutes later and Juan Rodriguez sent an effort over the bar as the first half drew to a close.

Chances were harder to come by after the break with the best effort reserved for four minutes from the end when Levante defender Ivan Lopez saw his strike from 20 yards saved by Guaita.

However, Levante were able to hang on without adding to their score, to win only their eighth league game of the season.
