Real Sociedad gave their La Liga survival hopes a boost by demolishing Deportivo La Coruna 5-0.

The hosts ended a run of four straight defeats with a comfortable victory at the Anoeta Stadium on Friday.

Asier Illarramendi's double and goals from Willian Jose, Sergio Canales and Aritz Elustondo moved Sociedad nine points clear of the bottom three.

Defeat left Deportivo third from bottom and they have now won just once in their last 12 La Liga games.

Jose opened the scoring when he steered in Juanmi's low cross from 10-yards after the former Southampton man had stayed onside.

Illarramendi doubled the hosts' lead after 62 minutes when his 35-yard free-kick caught out Ruben in goal and found the bottom corner.

Thirteen minutes later it was 3-0 when Canales latched onto Jose's excellent through ball, rounded Ruben and rolled into the empty net.
