Mark Warburton has confirmed that Rangers will take on Celtic in the Scottish Cup semi-final without their top-scorer Martyn Waghorn.

The 26-year-old striker has lost his race to be fit after injuring his knee against Kilmarnock in February's quarter-final replay.

Waghorn has not featured since that match and Warburton revealed Rangers would be without their 28-goal striker against their Glasgow rivals.

"Martyn won't be in the Old Firm game. The guy has been out for six weeks. He has to get fit. You can't just come back in to a game of that level," he said.

"But if we get through that then I think hopefully he'll figure in the final."

The Old Firm clash takes place a week on Sunday and their most recent meeting came last season in the Scottish League Cup, with Celtic winning 2-0 over their Ibrox rivals.

However, captain Lee Wallace feels that a Rangers side without the former Sunderland, Leicester and Wigan forward is worse off.

"Waggy's quality is there for everybody to see," he said.

"He's our top scorer and I think he's still top of the Championship scoring charts and that speaks volumes for him."

"He's getting closer to fitness and is working hard every day but while he'll be a miss next week, it's a chance for somebody else to step in, like they have done since Waggy's been injured."
