The Foreign Office has instructed Celtic fans not to use the Istanbul Metro next week after a pipe bomb exploded near a station.

Celtic play Fenerbahce in their final Europa League game of the season across the Bosphorus at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium on December 10.

Five people were injured near Bayrampasa subway station on the European side of Istanbul on Tuesday.

"Istanbul police advise against using the Metro. Alternative bus lines are available," a Foreign Office statement read.

The advice also advises Hoops supporters to avoid any demonstrations and "try not to travel alone to the stadium and avoid displaying Celtic flags/shirts in public places".

Celtic have never previously played a competitive fixture in Turkey, and although Ronny Deila's side have been eliminated from the Europa League they could still have a say in the outcome of Group A.

Norwegian side Molde have already qualified, but if Fenerbahce avoid defeat by Celtic then they will clinch second place ahead of Ajax.

The previous encounter between the teams ended 2-2 at Celtic Park in November, when the home side lost a two-goal advantage.
