Kenny Miller scored his 100th goal for Rangers as they moved up to third in the Scottish Premiership after claiming a 1-0 win at Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Friday night.

Miller, who is in his third spell with the Gers, sent Mark Warburton's side on their way to victory at Caledonian Stadium, netting a spectacular volley in the 22nd minute.

Martyn Waghorn came closest to doubling Rangers' lead, while Lonsana Doumbouya was guilty of missing Inverness' best chance of the match.

The victory sees Rangers move level on points with second-placed Aberdeen, and within four of leaders Celtic, while Inverness remain eighth following the defeat.

Inverness came into the match unbeaten in their last five league games and nearly grabbed the lead inside the opening three minutes, but the unmarked Doumbouya somehow contrived to head over from close range.

The home side continued to look the more threatening in the early exchanges, with young midfielder Liam Polworth testing the palms of Rangers goalkeeper Wes Foderingham from distance.

But Rangers eventually found their feet in the Highlands and went in front when Miller rifled a stunning volley past Inverness goalkeeper Owain Fon Williams after meeting Lee Wallace's cross from the left.

Minutes later, Fon Williams needed to be alert to prevent Rangers going further in front and produced a sensational save to deny Waghorn from six yards out.

Miller came close to doubling his tally for the evening shortly after half-time, but the impressive Fon Williams was equal to his low effort and managed to palm it around the post.

Jason Holt and Waghorn failed to capitalise on opportunities to increase Rangers' advantage before Inverness nearly restored parity, with substitute Adam Doran seeing his effort cleared off the line by Rob Kiernan with less than 20 minutes remaining.

Inverness continued to go in search of an equaliser in the closing stages, with their best opportunity of a late equaliser falling to an unmarked Alex Fisher, but he sent his header wide of the target.
