Newport 1-0 Macclesfield: County edge past struggling Silkmen

Highlights of the Sky Bet League Two game between Newport County and Macclesfield.

Newport kept the pressure on their Sky Bet League Two play-off rivals with a 1-0 win over struggling Macclesfield at Rodney Parade.

Michael Flynn's side are now eight points off the play-off places but crucially have three games in hand on their rivals.

Macclesfield came close to opening the scoring when Arthur Gnahoua found himself one-on-one with Tom King - but the right-winger shot inches wide of the net.

The Exiles broke the deadlock in the 34th minute when Josh Labadie's header beat Macclesfield keeper Jonathan Mitchell at the far post after a fantastic cross from Green, who caused havoc with his pace down the touchline.

Padraig Amond could also have made it 2-0 before the break with his shot punched wide by Mitchell, meaning Newport held a 1-0 lead at the interval.

Mitchell was forced into an outstanding save after half-time as he acrobatically tipped Labadie's shot over the crossbar.
