Eddie Howe says he’s delighted for Callum Wilson after his hat-trick helped Bournemouth to a 4-0 win over Huddersfield.

Eddie Howe was delighted for Callum Wilson after the striker put his injury troubles behind him with a sensational hat-trick in Bournemouth's 4-0 win over Huddersfield.

Since Bournemouth's promotion to the Premier League in 2015, Wilson has suffered two cruciate knee ligament injuries which have forced him to miss 55 games in total.

He returned from his latest setback as a substitute in the 1-0 defeat to Chelsea in October before starting against Newcastle and he scored his first, second and third goals of the campaign against Huddersfield.

Speaking post-match, Howe said: "I'm so pleased for Callum Wilson, it's been a long, long journey. He's had several ups and downs.

"He was at the peak of his powers when he scored that hat-trick at West Ham when we first entered the Premier League, it looked like he had the world at his feet and that's how quickly things can change in football.

"He's had a bleak time but he's always stayed positive throughout it. He has a great attitude towards his life and his football and I'm delighted he got his reward today."

Wilson's first-half double gave Bournemouth a seemingly comfortable 2-0 cushion but Simon Francis' red card at the end of the half led to Huddersfield coming back into the game.

The visitors dominated possession in the second period but were unable to create too many chances due to the quality of Bournemouth's defending and Howe was particularly pleased with how his side defended as they kept Huddersfield at bay.

"The highlight for me was the second half. We managed the game very well, we stayed disciplined and defended our goal superbly," he said.

"They are a dangerous team, they played on the front foot and we were probably fortunate to go in 2-0 ahead. But saying that I thought we got our rewards in the second half for a really disciplined display."
