The FA is gathering footage and awaiting the referee's report before deciding whether to take action against Tomer Hemed for a possible stamp on DeAndre Yedlin.
It will consider whether Hemed meant to tread on Yedlin after the full-back went to ground a minute before full-time in Brighton's 1-0 victory over Newcastle at The Amex, live on Sky Sports.
Chris Hughton is hopeful the FA will not take any further action and described the incident, which went unnoticed by referee Andre Marriner, as unintentional.
"My first impression is that there was no intent," Hughton said.
"There's no doubting the contact but knowing the individual there would also be no intent."
Super Sunday pundits Graeme Souness and Thierry Henry both agreed Hemed could face retrospective action from the FA for his actions.
Hemed, who scored the winning goal, could face a three-match ban, which would be a huge blow to the Seagulls, with fellow striker Glenn Murray also injured.
