Sean Rigg scored against his former club as Port Vale cruised to an emphatic 3-0 win at Bristol Rovers.
Marc Richards turned on to a Tom Pope pass inside the box to fire the visitors ahead with a low drive after 19 minutes. Doug Loft doubled the advantage after 37 minutes when his 25-yard shot took a wicked deflection to send the ball looping over goalkeeper Scott Bevan's despairing dive. Rigg saved the best goal until last, lashing an unstoppable 25-yard shot past Bevan with five minutes remaining. Rovers were booed off at the interval having only sprung to life in the final five minutes of the half when Scott Rendell had a shot blocked and Vale goalkeeper Stuart Tomlinson saved from Danny Woodards and Lee Brown. It did not get any better for under-fire boss Paul Buckle as chants of "what a load of rubbish" rang around the Memorial Stadium after Rigg's goal. For Vale boss Micky Adams it was the perfect response to his team's heavy 4-0 home defeat by Morecambe on Saturday.Vale make Pirates walk the plank
