Ex-Blackburn Rovers midfielder John O'Sullivan has signed for Carlisle United on an 18-month contract.

O'Sullivan was released by Rovers after a loan spell at Accrington Stanley, where he scored two goals in 25 appearances.

The 23-year-old had been at Ewood Park since 2009 but made just six first-team appearances for the club.

"John is a player we've admired for quite a while," Carlisle assistant manager Lee Dykes said. "He's got good pedigree through his time at Blackburn Rovers and he's had some good loan spells where he's been tested in different ways.

"When he first went to Accrington there was a lot of talk about him and Blackburn were turning down six figure bids for him because they had high hopes for him.
