Philippe Montanier believes Nottingham Forest are finally finding the right balance between attack and defence, following another flurry of goals at the City Ground, as the Reds beat Leeds United 3-1.

Forest had previously beaten Burton and Wigan 4-3 on home turf and, while the tide of goals continued on the banks of the River Trent, Montanier's side were also more defensively solid, with only a free-kick from Kalvin Phillips causing any nerves when he made the score 2-1 in the 84th minute.

Prior to that Pajtim Kasami's driven effort and a header from Damien Perquis had put the home side in control, with Oliver Burke killing the game off deep into injury time when he produced a fine solo effort in the 95th minute to restore Forest's two-goal advantage.

Forest are still seeking their first Championship clean sheet of the campaign but Montanier feels they are edging closer to it.

"I don't know if it was the best we have played, but it was a serious challenge for us; it was a tough game and a tough team to play at home so I am very happy with the win and also with the mentality of the squad," he said.

"We needed to be strong defensively and also have the capacity to score goals to win the game. We were more solid as a side and that was the target.

"The target is to be more solid defensively, but also to still play offensively. We have to find a good balance and this was a good performance on that front. The balance was much better.

"The defenders played very well, they did not take any risks at the back. We were more solid."

Any visiting scouts will have again returned home with glowing reports on Burke, who is understood to be on the radar of numerous Premier League clubs including Tottenham and Sunderland.

But, with the transfer window closing on Wednesday, Montanier said: "I am confident he will still be a Forest player after the window has closed."

Leeds boss Garry Monk is more concerned about using the international break to work on the defensive mistakes he feels are costing his side - and never more so than against Forest.

"We gifted them two soft goals, which made it difficult," he said.

"In general play we were the better team.

"From the 46th minute they were wasting time, they looked nervous when it came to holding on to their 1-0 lead. But we never really pushed them back.

"We needed to be more clinical, we needed to take our chances. We conceded soft goals and Forest did nothing in general play otherwise.

"If not for the goals we conceded we would have won the game, definitely.

"We have the international break now and some time for us to work on things, to drill a few things into the players. We need to cut out the sloppiness and the individual errors. We have the squad to address this."
