Second-half goals from Milan Lalkovic and Jordy Hiwula saw Walsall beat Gillingham 2-1 to climb to third in the Sky Bet League 1 table.
The Gills wasted a gilt-edged chance to take a first-half lead when Luke Norris' penalty was pushed away by Neil Etheridge.
Despite Norris' last-gasp strike they paid the ultimate price as Walsall followed up two successive defeats with a priceless victory that moved them five points behind second-placed Burton with a game in hand.
Midway through the first half referee Stuart Attwell pointed to the spot, penalising Paul Downing for handball, but Philippines international Etheridge dived low to his right to push away Norris' spot-kick.
Five minutes later Lalkovic curled a 25-yard free-kick against the top of the crossbar as Stuart Nelson stood rooted to the spot.
Walsall broke the deadlock on 68 minutes when Lalkovic unleashed a fizzing effort across goal and beyond the clutches of Nelson.
And on 77 minutes the result was wrapped up when Romaine Sawyers squared for Hiwula to drive in low from the edge of the box.
Norris netted a late consolation but it was too late for Gillingham.
