Luton boss John Still has not ruled out a move for striker Craig Mackail-Smith.
The former Brighton and Peterborough striker, who worked under Still at Dagenham, is a free agent and has been training with the Hatters.
He played against Boreham Wood in a pre-season friendly on Tuesday evening and scored a well-taken equaliser.
Still told Luton's YouTube channel: "He's getting fitter, and we need to get him a bit fitter, and as we go along we'll be talking and we'll see where it leads.
"From when we first started talking we said 'come in and train, come to Portugal and when we get back we'll have a talk and see how we both feel'.
"I've got a very close relationship with him...it helps to get them back when we need to get them back.
"He's looking at what he thinks his next move will be. He felt this was the right place to come while he decided the best thing to do.
"We'll wait and see. This is a two-way street. We would like to work with him if we can make something happen but at the moment we're comfortable with it."
