Nigel Pearson admits his Leicester players are struggling to keep themselves positive after a 2-0 defeat at West Ham made it 12 games without a win .
Having lost five on the trot, Pearson’s Leicester are five points adrift of safety with pressure growing on the 51-year-old to turn around the Foxes’ fortunes in the Premier League.
Goals from Andy Carroll and Stewart Downing gave the Hammers all three points on Saturday, but Pearson believed his side showed potential again, despite it being the same old story of creating their own problems.
Pearson told Sky Sports: “It’s a similar story to what we’ve unfortunately been having to deal with and that is when we’re in games, doing pretty well, mistakes cost us dearly.
“It remains very frustrating. Our players are struggling to keep themselves as positive as they need to be. The performance again suggests there’s plenty of spirit there. There’s only us that can change it.”
Pearson’s side have just two wins all season, picking up 10 points from 17 games, and the manager knows his job is under serious review with Leicester in danger of being cut off from the rest of the relegation battle.
He said: “I don’t like having to stand in front of the cameras and discuss another defeat. Without stating the obvious, the type of run we’re on means I fully accept there’s going to be big questions about my own situation.
“We’re on a very, very bad run and my position will always be speculated about because of that.
“I can’t waste my vital energy worrying about that situation. I’ll continue to push, nudge and drag them if I need to help them through this difficult time.”
