WATCH: Jamie Vardy signs first three recruits to V9 Academy

Leicester forward Jamie Vardy talking non-league memories with the first three players to sign for his V9 academy.

Jamie Vardy has signed the first three players for his new V9 Academy as he looks to find non-league's next big talent.

Danny Newton (Tamworth FC), James Montgomery (AFC Telford) and Luke Coulson (Eastleigh) are all playing outside the EFL and are the first recruits to Premier League champion Vardy's academy.

Vardy, who was recently nominated for the Ballon d'Or, made his way to Leicester City following spells at Halifax and Fleetwood Town, and is hoping to unearth a player to follow in his footsteps.

"To get the first three signed up is brilliant, and hopefully more will follow," Vardy told Sky Sports News HQ.

"Everyone gets the best out of their ability at different times, so I don't think you should be turning your back on them too early.

"The boys that we can get on can prove that they shouldn't have been released in the first place and get their shots."

Vardy's wife Rebecca also reveals how set-backs in her partner's footballing career almost led him to turn his back on the game altogether.
