Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has been sacked as QPR manager after less than a year in the job.

The Dutchman, who was brought in from Burton in December last year, leaves Loftus Road with Rangers 17th in the Championship, six points clear of the bottom three.

Rangers won a late point at Nottingham Forest on Saturday despite playing almost an hour with 10 men following Karl Henry's first-half red card.

Idrissa Sylla's equaliser prevented a third straight defeat but was not enough to save Hasselbaink's job, with Sky sources indicating he was told shortly after the game that he would be dismissed before being formally sacked on his return to London.

It is also understood his successor will be in place by the time QPR take on Norwich on November 19, with David Oldfield taking charge in the interim.

Sky sources understand Gianfranco Zola would be interested in talking to QPR, although he is favourite for the vacant role at Inter Milan, while Paul Clement was chairman Tony Fernandes' "dream manager" when he eventually gave the job to Chris Ramsay.

Steve Cotterill is also understood to have expressed an interest - but it seems likely he could take the vacant job at MK Dons.

A club statement read: "The club appreciates Jimmy's efforts during his time in charge and wishes him all the best for the future.

"Owing to the international break, the First Team squad will return to training on Wednesday. A further update regarding the club's managerial situation will be made in due course."

Hasselbaink is understood to be disappointed by the decision, feeling he didn't have enough time at QPR to make an impact, and Sky sources say he was frustrated by what he feels was a lack of support in the transfer market.

Speaking immediately after the Forest game he said: "If [QPR bosses] are going to do something, that is the nature of the game. Whatever happens is just football."

Hasselbaink is the 14th manager in the top four English divisions to lose his job since the start of the season.
