Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is the new manager of QPR, the Championship club have confirmed.

The former Leeds United and Chelsea striker leaves League One leaders Burton Albion for the west London team that is currently 11th in the Championship table.

He joins on a one-year rolling contract and will take charge at Loftus Road immediately, although QPR's next game is not until December 12 when they entertain Burnley.

The 43-year-old Dutchman moved to the Pirelli Stadium 13 months ago and led Burton to the League Two title in May.

So far this season, the Staffordshire club have won 13 of their 20 League One matches and are top of the table by two points.

Since Rangers sacked Chris Ramsey in early November, Neil Warnock has taken temporary charge.

The club have won their last two matches under Warnock, including a 1-0 victory at Reading on Thursday evening.

Hasselbaink, who will be joined at QPR by assistant manager David Oldfield, admitted he had to think long and hard before making the switch.

He said: "It was not an easy decision to leave Burton. But when you get the opportunity to come somewhere like QPR, it was something I couldn't turn down.

New QPR boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink said he is excited about what the future holds for him and QPR.

"I feel that this is a club on the up. It has an exciting feeling about it and I want to keep that feeling going by taking more positive strides forward.

"I am happy to get the opportunity here at QPR, to lead the QPR family, put my stamp on things and take the club forward. This is an incredibly proud moment for me."

After supervising training in west London on Friday, Hasselbaink spoke to Sky Sports News HQ and said he was happy with the squad he had inherited - and was equally content to have signed a rolling contract.

He said: "I am very happy, very excited. There is big work ahead and I can't wait to get started properly.

"The rolling contract was a mutual decision. It was the best way forward and I am very happy and comfortable with it.

"We have to look to the next game, try and win and climb up the league. We need to get the feel-good factor back again. We will keep our feet on the ground. We must be positive but not crazy. We have very good squad and am very happy with it."

Director of football Les Ferdinand, who spoke to a dozen candidates regarding the vacant role, expressed his delight at the appointment.

He said: "We went through a very meticulous recruitment process that generated a lot of excellent candidates.

"We gave ourselves a real selection headache with the high level of candidates we spoke to but Jimmy was the best of the best, without any doubt.

"We have been hugely impressed by his work at Burton. Having won League Two, he leaves them at the top of League One, which is an incredible achievement."
