Burnley boss Sean Dyche discusses the financial parameters at Turf Moor

Burnley are desperate to impress in the Premier League and have every chance of being competitive despite an increasingly restrictive market, says boss Sean Dyche.

The Clarets bounced back from the Championship at the first attempt and can now look forward to their top-flight opener at Turf Moor against Swansea on August 13.

Dyche revealed he was keen on bringing in new players to improve their chances of avoiding the drop and opened up to Sky Sports News HQ on the troubles that have been holding him back during the summer.

"We are active in the recruitment market and that's important," he said. "The players we have from two years ago are wiser and the newcomers bring a freshness to the squad.

"There's that mixture and if we can add depth to the squad then that will give us an edge to make us competitive - we really want to be competitive in the Premier League."

Burnley have so far conducted a very conservative transfer policy, but it hasn't been due to a lack of trying. They have spent just £3.6m on Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Nick Pope from Charlton.

On their limited outlay to date, Dyche added: "It's reality and frustration mixed together.

"There is a reality to the world of Burnley when it comes to recruitment. There are financial parameters and guidelines that I work under and they can be tough at times. The market is forever going north - the numbers get higher and higher.

"Everyone is looking for that quality. The loan system is changing so that makes it harder and the big teams have huge squads of talented youngsters. So the pool of youngsters gets tighter and softens.

"There are a number of things going against you and we have to work within that. We still think we can be productive with recruitment but also with the players we've got.

"But we are not naïve to the challenge. We know how tough it is. Everyone wants this, the players, the fans and the town wants it. We want to be in the Premier League.

"There are no short cuts and we've earned the right to be here. We worked very hard last season to be here. We just need add to what we've done in the past and add to that going forward."
