A clinical finish from Kayden Jackson proved the difference as Sky Bet League One leaders Ipswich edged a narrow 1-0 victory at Fleetwood.
Paul Lambert's side were severely tested as they extended their unbeaten start to the league season, though Jackson also missed a late spot-kick before the visitors ended the match with 10 men.
Fleetwood were the first to go close when Wes Burns headed Josh Morris' in-swinging corner kick narrowly wide.
The closest either side came to scoring in the first half saw Ipswich's Luke Garbutt fizz a super-low strike inches wide after he had latched on to a smart through-ball from Kane Vincent-Young.
The away side also threatened when James Norwood rose well before heading Garbutt's precise cross just over the crossbar.
Norwood fluffed a great chance in the first minute of the second period when he dragged a shot wide when one-on-one against Town goalkeeper Alex Cairns.
Ipswich broke the deadlock after 58 minutes when Jackson mopped up a rebound after Cairns could only parry Garbutt's 25-yard free-kick.
Jackson then stroked a late penalty wide after being felled by Jimmy Dunne, before Ipswich defender James Wilson was shown a second yellow card in stoppage-time.
